Movie quote meme from everyone:

List the first ten movie/tv quotes that pop into your head. They must be from different movies/tv shows. Don't think too hard. At the end, tag five people to do the same:

1. Motosh etebyen, tovarish. (Sascha Alexei Krycek, The X-Files, episode 5.14, "The Red and the Black")

2. Help, help, I'm being repressed! (Dennis the Peasant, Monty Python and the Holy Grail)

3. Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn (Rhett Butler, Gone With The Wind)

4. I have fixed the toilet! (Geoffrey Tennant, Slings and Arrows)

5. Man, you scare the shit out of me when you time travel like that. (Joe Dick, Hard Core Logo)

6. Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore (Dorothy Gale, The Wizard of Oz)

7. Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else. (Ambassador Delenn, Babylon 5)

8. The rats are his! (Abagail Freemantle, The Stand miniseries)

9. Ah, Constable, you've returned. Upon reflection, I imagine that pleases me (Lt. Harding Welsh, Due South, ep 3.O1, "Burning Down the House")

10. Don't you remember, Seanie, and how it was? The road led up past the chapel and it wound and it wound. (Voice of Mrs. Thornton, The Quiet Man)

Joe Dick? I've got an online friend who goes by that name. Can you tell me about the movie? I thought he had just come up with a really stupid name by himself... my bad!

I don't think I could possibly describe HCL effectively. It's a mockumentary, a fucked-up buddy film,a road trip movie, and a character study all in one. It's gorgeous, in a gritty, unpretty way. It's a love story, at the heart, even though it doesn't look like one at first glance.

Joe Dick is played by Hugh Dillon. After I saw HCL, I researched his music and found out he's quite the rock and roll poet. Even if I hadn't liked the film, I'd love it anyway for introducing me to Hugh Dillon. Such a talent.

Here's Wikipedia's info on the film.

IMDB's has more here.

Sorry for the longwinded answer. I tend to fangirl stuff I love. :)

Another review is here

This is the video of one of the songs from the soundtrack (although the film doesn't include anything resembling a Beatles parody).

No, thank you for going to so much trouble! I can see I've got some research to do. And it's a sad commentary on our film distribution system here when you're fangirling a canuck movie that I've never heard about.

It's good to know I can hang on to my Canadaphile licence another day. Of course, if Ottawa finds out about my extreme sensitivity to cold and snow, well. Don't ask, don't tell, all that. ;)

I've been finding that Canadian cinema seems to have two extremes of film: really good and bloody awful. HCL is one of the good ones. It's definitely not a film for everyone, though. My mother would hate it. *g*

I remember. Still one of my favorite S/E stories.

Love...

Re: #1. Our Alex should've followed that with, "Ya tebya zaschischya, lyob'emay." I let you stew for a bit before I give the translation (unless you can figure it out).

In other news, have you heard the song, "Brian Boru" sung in gaelic by Alan Stivell? I am hard pressed at the moment to think of any song more beautiful.

I think it means "I love you," or something like that.

No, I haven't heard it. Send?

"I will take care of you, beloved."

It's not an *exact* translation, but close (or so I'm told). Not that Mulder needed taking care of, but it just seems to me that Alex was always one step (or more) ahead of him.
