Dear Paul Gross,
Please stop.
You're allowed to be pretty and smart. I'll give you that.
You're also allowed to record music that's pleasant and catchy. Got a nice tune and I can dance to it, I give it a 75.
Nice but nothing out of the ordinary.
But please don't write or (gods forbid) record any more songs that are so gorgeous and intense and breathtaking that I can feel them all the way down to the tips of my fingers.
Because it really isn't fair, all that not being able to breathe and everything.
On second thought, forget I said anything.
No, really, forget it.
Carry on.
I'll be over here in a heap on the floor next to the speaker.
Until next time, so long and thanks for all the consonants,
Me
I mean, holy shit.

Date: 2006-09-27 08:25 am (UTC)"Give the Dog a Bone," one of Gross's tunes, exemplifies the singer-songwriter's wicked sense of humor, his sly twist of plot. It also takes full advantage of the husky growl in his voice. The first time I listened to this track, a picture flew unbidden into my mind of a gorgeous-yet-clueless guy, naked on a bed in a cheap motel room, trying to figure why his "date" just walked out the door. It still makes me giggle.

Date: 2006-09-27 08:36 am (UTC)I usually like serious songs better than humourous ones. This one? Hits all my music/poetry/country-folk/story song buttons. Songs that paint a picture suck me in every time. And I love David's harmony. Their voices really compliment each other.

Every once in a while the mod will solicit questions and send them to David, and then post his replies.
He seems like a cool guy.

Date: 2006-09-27 08:08 am (UTC)I think you're the only person I know who goes as weak-kneed as I do over Paul's consonants... and this song showcases them like nothing else. Dear lord. *happysquirms*

Whenever I get around to working up chords for some of the others, I'll be happy to share them with you. Do the same?

Date: 2006-09-28 03:38 am (UTC)I'd really like to figure out the chords to this, though. Minor chords, I know a few of those. It's in my range, too. I know I won't nail the Cs and Ks and Gs (with a guest appearance by D--NOW how much would you pay? [/infomercial]) like Paul does. *bites lip*

Date: 2006-09-27 06:40 pm (UTC)Saying that, I also get shivers down my spine at the opening few lines of Kiss You Till You Weep - he sounds like a rougher Bono talking about all the places he wants to have sex. I often listen to that song and switch over after that opening.

Date: 2006-09-27 11:16 pm (UTC)I like Kiss You Till You Weep, the whole thing, actually. I never got a Bono connection. Now, of course, I won't be able to dismiss the Bono visual. Thanks, buddy. *g*
A lot of Paul's stuff is like I said, pleasant, nice, sweet. Family Matters is serious music, from the songwriting up. I would love to find somewhere that has the guitar tabs to it.
