I can't imagine they won't approve it, since the last review was posted three years ago, and most of the reviews on the site suck. *g*

I love Maury Chaykin thiiiiis much, even when he's all psychopathic and evil. I could go on and on and on about how much I loved this film. Loved, as in the same way I loved Silence of the Lambs, but still, OMG, yes.

This is a creepy, creepy film, so if you're not into psychological thrillers, you might not want to see it. Creepy Maury Chaykin is brilliant.

I watched CC last night as well on my video. I also liked it very much although by any reasonable standard, I really should not have.

Parts I liked:

- When Stephen was chained up at some point and starts yelling and swearing at Maury Chaykin's character. You could just see how he had suddenly realised that he was going to be left there to die and started panicking. Great piece of acting by babyPaul.

- The chemistry between Stephen and the daughter was spot-on, which made their entire horrible relationship work. I wonder how things turned out in the end, apart from the years in therapy for the both of them.

- That "Hello, I'm off my head" look that Maury gave Stephen during their arm-wrestle, and the reciprocated "Oh crap, I'm dealing with a psycho here!" look that Stephen had on his face, were both great.

- I nearly threw up at that bear-trap part. Yikes. Although I did at first wonder whether Maury was faking the drunken stupor and had taken Stephen out to the woods and shot him. I'm not sure what is worse.

- Was I the only one who thought that Maury was going to rape Stephen at some point? That shoulder massage had me worried there for a while.

I kind of figured I'd like this because I love psychological thrillers (i.e. Silence of the Lambs). One of my favourite books is Rose madder, and I'm currently reading Lisey's Story, also a (so far) fascinating psychothriller (why, yes, I'm a Stephen King Fan, and damn proud of it. *g*). I wanted so much for Eye of the Beholder to have had enough money to make it as good as it could have been. Same kind of creepy psychothriller, but it went over budget and didn't pull it off exactly right. I still liked it, but it could have been better.

I didn't think of that, mostly because I read in the reviews that the UST was Floyd's toward his daughter. I'm really, really glad that it didn't turn out that way, because rape is one thing I have trouble watching. *shudder* I was amused by myself during the massage part, though, because the first thing I thought about was OMG, that must feel great. I've been really wanting a massage for months. So my brain got the creepiness, but my body was all, 'can I be next?' *hunches sore shoulders*


Now I have Murder Most Likely to watch, but I couldn't do it on the heels of this one. Too much creepy all at once.

I wasn't sure how the Floyd thing was going to turn out really. The sexual obsession with his daughter was evident but he was throwing some looks at Stephen as well. At one point I thought he was going to force Stephen to have sex with his daughter while Floyd watched or something, but that didn't turn out either. I was yelling at the screen during the hack-saw scene "Come on you bastard, get through the chain, Floys isn't going to tell anyone! argh!".

I've only seen the first few minutes of MML, but I've read articles like this one, so yeah, I dunno.

The first point goes to Patrick Kelly, I think, because he's based on an actual living person. That makes it really, really creepy. Not to mention that Patrick has NO conscience whatsoever (which for some reason fascinates the hell out of me, but then, so does Charles Manson), and is a heck of an actor. I wonder if the woman who changed her testimony was swayed by something Patrick said to her while he was in prison. That? Is creepy to the nth degree. I'm also just the kind of person to be completely snowed by someone like Patrick. I'm a completely gullible person, especially if I'm being wined and dined and complimented.

But there are people out there like Floyd, too. It's easier to notice them, but they're so volatile you might not know they're sneaking up behind you until it's too late.

Either way, I wouldn't want to be stuck in a room with either of them for long.

Hell, no. Put me in a room with Chris Cutter and I'm golden. Or better yet, Geoffrey Tennant. Although if I wanted to feel completely, utterly safe with someone? Make it Fraser, because he'd never, ever hurt me, like ever. We'd just spend hours talking about stuff nobody else cares about. I mean, I'd really want to hear Inuit stories. *g*

Interesting point about Patrick in prison. I wonder if she did visit him at all, because certainly he appeared to have some emotional hold over her if nothing else. It's an interesting story, and it would be fascinating to learn the truth, however we will never know it for sure. I think the film brings across a lot of points incredibly well though.

Perhaps there are attributes of an RCMP officer that are frightening or distasteful to you. Fraser and Gus both have a philosophical side, so they'd do fine. And as soon as Fraser found out that Chris was a curler, he'd corner him, which would be fine with Chris because curling is SUCH an exciting thing to talk about. At least to Chris.

Oooh heck, I had forgotten about Buddy.

He'll get on with Gus, being from South Shore, Nova Scotia and all, and then he can share policing tips with Fraser, which Fraser will LOVE and will make Buddy feel even more inferior, so he'll then talk to Chris to make himself feel better. Chris will get him drunk, talk about throwing rocks down some ice and he'll realise that his life isn't quite as crappy as he once thought. He may also pitch into Geoffrey - they can depress each other.

Fraser will get on with Gus as well, what with the whole Russian speaking thing and their mutual experience with nuclear submarines and ghost ship legends.
