- I have a new sofa! Well, it's really a second-hand sofa, but it's in really good shape and wasn't cheap new, and has just a tiny bit of wear and tear on one end. It's beige, so it'll go with everything, or I can put a slipcover on it. Or cool throw pillows! Also, it's comfortable and FREE! The only expense is the sixty bucks I paid to have it delivered. I'd even have moved it myself except that my apartment's on the second floor and I wouldn't have a clue how to do it no matter how many people I corralled into helping.
- Today is the birthday of
dragonflymuse, Willie Nelson, Stephen Harper, and Paul Gross. The latter two were born on the exact same day. I'm still not convinced there's no conspiracy here. They could be (fraternal) twins separated at birth. Although, *looks at pictures again* I rather doubt it. The conspiracy therefore must be political. Others born today:
- Isaiah Thomas, NBA forward, Detroit Pistons. He was a guest star on due South. The plot thickens.
- Kazimierz III the Great, King of Poland, 1333-70. Ray Kowalski is Polish. Coincidence or surreptitious chicanery? I wonder...

Where did Stephen go wrong? Did the chess club lure him into wingnuttia? ;P
The accent thingy got me right this time. The last one told me I was from Minnesota. :( This time it recognized the Canadian accent. Pretty nifty.
Oh - Happy New Sofa Day!!

"The Canadian Accent". Accurate, that. Kind of like "The American Accent", 'cause, y'know, we all talk the same. *drops Rs in true Massachusetts style*

Date: 2007-05-01 06:06 pm (UTC)The RI accent sounds like New York, only worse. I've been in RI since I was eighteen, and routinely exorcise the accent if it starts lurking about my speech patterns.

Date: 2007-05-01 06:28 pm (UTC)That's something I wouldn't pick up on without some time spent there. I don't hear the distinction. Guess I'm too wrapped up in the dropped "r" thing to notice the rest. ;)
When I moved west, little things like the way people say "Vancouver" used to irritate me. I would say "Vancoover" and they say "Vancuver" as if there's an umlaut over the u. I thought it sounded goofy (or, if you like, gufy) Now I don't notice it - I've likely started saying it myself. Duuuuude!

Date: 2007-05-01 03:42 pm (UTC)I am trying to block the fact that Harper and I are born on the same day. ::focuses on the YAY PAUL factor::

Date: 2007-05-01 06:07 pm (UTC)If you're having trouble with this, think of what angst Paul might be going through. Because he can't be a Harper fan, he's way too smart for that. Oh, teh torment!

Maybe he's a cusper from April 29, or the doc miscalculated the time he hit the atmosphere.I don't think Paul is angsting over it, but perhaps he views Harper as his cosmic, evil Doppelganger (birthdate soley), and it is Paul's destiny to save Canada and healthcare from the Conservatives ::nods::
