This is awesome:
Dear Barack Obama,
You're actually starting to get my hopes up. This is probably a good thing. Your health care stuff isn't perfect, but it's a step in the right direction. Please don't ever let yourself get sucked into the Old Guard.
Optimistically Yours,
Me.

Dear John McCain,
I like you. I really do like you. Come to my house, I'll bake you cookies. Your politics kinda suck, though, which is too bad, 'cause they mostly didn't used to. Where have you gone, 2000!McCain? I miss you.
But I'm serious about the cookies.
Disappointedly,
Me.

Thanks to

Sam says that Brigid is coming. Nevermind that I haven't yet ovulated this cycle. This has nothing to do with anything except that we should videotape the birth. The birth of the yet-to-be-conceived child. Nothing like planning ahead.

Date: 2008-02-12 11:00 pm (UTC)I'd heard about the "Yes We Can" song, but hadn't actually heard it yet, let alone seen the vid. Have cried buckets, which is just sort of my standard reaction to speeches by Barack Obama (hope being often painful, y'know).
Second vid? Dripping awesome-sauce all over my living room carpet.
Mike Huckabee. *sigh*
Going to download the first two videos now. I hart you.

Date: 2008-02-12 11:58 pm (UTC)*edits for typos*
Date: 2008-02-13 12:38 am (UTC)Kennedy didn't have experience to lead...
Susan B. Anthony...
Nelson Mandela...
Rosa Parks...
Gandhi...
Anne Frank...
and everyone else who has had a hand in molding the freedoms we have and take for granted today...
I could add:
Lech Wałęsa
Harriet Tubman
Pierre Trudeau (in fact, I just found this article that calls Obama the "Democrat's Trudeau")
...and a whole bunch of others.
no one truly has experience to deal with the world today...
they just need "desire, strength, courage ability, and passion" to change...
and to stand for something even when people say it's not possible...
I completely love this article.

Date: 2008-02-13 01:33 am (UTC)Coincidentally, I just watched the Trudeau biopic the other night (I've owned the damn thing for months and had been putting it off like woah). I knew next to nothing about the guy going in, but all through it I was drawn to his ideas and kept thinking, gah. The US needs someone like that. And then watching Obama's speeches I got the same sense of being drawn. And now there's that article. *cue X-files music*
Either I'm tapping into collective thought or I read people like a genius. I'm thinking probably neither, but hey, it's a good story. :)

Date: 2008-02-13 04:37 am (UTC)I'm ashamed to say I didn't either until about three days ago. wtf?
This video is a good showcase of his personality, from the little I've seen of such things (there's not a lot of Trudeau video around that I can find, which is odd). He's basically fucking with the head of a news guy during the 1970 October Crisis. It's a giant piece of history, actually, not that most American high schools would even consider teaching about it in history classes:
I fell under Obama's spell right after I heard his speech at the DNC in 2004, and have been a huge fan ever since.
I must admit I'm late to the party. I was a Kucinich supporter and honestly didn't pay much more attention other than a few looks at the various candidates' stand on the issues. Obama is impressing the heck out of me, though, for all my latecoming.
But I've read the man's books, I've read where he stands on many positions, I've heard every speech I can access, and I just agree with the man
Dude. He writes his own books. This isn't the case for most candidates. *is v. impressed*
I think he's not only brutally intelligent, but also gifted with an uncommon amount of common sense and actual integrity (in a politician? O_o! So rare!!).
The last US politician with pure integrity was Jimmy Carter, IMO. I think Obama will be a better President overall, but Jimmy owns my heart still. :)
I think, at base, I just really need to feel proud of my country again.
Word. Yes. Oh, gods, yes.
Obama has fierce support all around the world, from what I can tell by reading the London Times every day
He has support in Canada, as well, at least among the left (I'm amused that the blogger calls him the "Democratic leadership candidate").
