Someone needs to caption this, liek, now:

Full article (which is disturbing and very worth reading) here: These people need to Go. Away. Now.

"Already, B.C. and Washington state are involved in a voluntary pilot project to develop drivers' licences that double as passports. The problem, Trew says, is "private information about Canadians will be available to Homeland Security agents in the U.S., and this is dangerous."

The same thing will happen in reverse, which might not be quite as dangerous but is still pretty scary.

"One SPP group – the North American Energy Working Group – already has almost a dozen sub-groups and expands goals regularly. It wants to see greater production at the Alberta Tar Sands project and more exports to the U.S. than 2007's 2.5 million barrels of oil a day."

Pollution, water wastage, and land rape (in the Boreal Forest, no less, which means releasing whole bunches of carbon into the atmosphere). Yeah, we need more of that. After all, there are all those Escalades and Hummers to feed!

Erm. This wasn't supposed to be a rant. I was just going to post the picture and link, honest.

Don't even get me started on the idea that even in times of shortage, we -have- to keep up our exports to the U.S. >_< I completely understand that we should share, because we have so many resources, but there's no way we should be -required- to keep up our exports when WE might need what we're exporting!

The article says, "There's already an energy downside for Canada. Under the terms of the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement, Canada can't ease up on energy exports to the U.S., even temporarily and including in times of shortage."

Yes, sharing is good, but under NAFTA it's LAW, even when the country doing the sharing will be left without enough for its own people. Why is this FAIR?

And it's not just oil and energy. NAFTA puts water on the table as a possible commodity. WATER. I. can't. even. *fumes* And the SPP makes the possibility even more likely.

NAFTA sucks bigtime. The SPP is even worse. And now it looks like Harper and Bush and all the US-Canada corporate cronies want to throw Mexico out of the deal. Which is underhanded as heck but under the circumstances Mexico might very well end up better off.

"I'd say that in a million years, this oak tree that we plant will be more oil that we can take, but the earth is only 6,000 years old."

"They'll never find the bodies here!"

"That's the sound of the men working on the chain gaaaaang. Ooh! Aah! Ooh! Aah!"

"No, our shit doesn't stink! Here, smell!"

"Our esteemed leaders, digging themselves deeper and deeper."

"The treasure map said it was right here! I hear the thump-thump! Hurry, before Cap'n Sparrow arrives!"

"Yakko, Wakko, and Dumb."

(I've got more where that came from.)

Yes, can't even think about any of this, head will explode. I hope Harper's government falls soon and falls hard. Maybe the fact that the Conservatives broke a bunch of campaign finance laws, as being investigated by the RCMP and Elections Canada as we speak? I can only hope.

Then I'm going to vote Green, dammit, since my riding always goes Conservative no matter what because it's full of rich, stingy, retired people.

If I'm allowed to vote at all, which... probably not. But still.

Gah. Yes. Or at least doesn't become a majority government DO YOU HEAR THAT, GOD(S)? *shakes fist at general pantheon*

I heard about that. Apparently the whole caper was planned in advance. *deadpan* Quelle Surprise.

Elizabeth May is a Cape Bretoner. Which is honestly not why I like her, but still. (Also, IIRC, she was born in the US)

If I'm allowed to vote at all, which... probably not

Why couldn't you vote? Because you're not in Canada? Are you always not in Canada these days? *is confused*
