NBC: Ann Coulter not banned from Today Show


See, I have this theory about Ann Coulter, which is that she might not be the conservative blowhard she wants us to believe she is.

Maybe she's a "conservative author" in the way Stephen Colbert is a conservative talk-show host. Only she's more clandestine and wants to plant herself firmly in the midst of the ultra-right lunatic fringe and thereby parodize them in such a way that they can't say a thing about it without looking like idiots.

Because if she really IS like her persona, she's pretty much an idiot. And if she's really a liberal plant, she's way, way clever in the way she does it.

Ann Coulter is 1) a media whore who found an unfilled niche and exploited it, saying and doing anything within the bounds of that niche to get her face in front of a camera or her name in print, and 2) an embarrassment to the majority of conservatives everywhere.

She is definitely 2. But she's just SO obnoxious, I almost, almost think she's fooling everyone.

She's fooling no one. Her motivation is not insidious at all, but is anchored in pure self-interest and greed. Her true beliefs notwithstanding, she knew that in-your-face rhetoric spewed more for shock value than rational debate could get her media attention, and since the media tilts left (for the most part), how better to bait them and assure attention than to go as far right as possible. Media attention, favorable or no, would guarantee exposure for her books, lectures, etc. In other words, $$$.

Apparently she has no problem debating the conservative media, either. Hannity can't stand her, and he's, well, Hannity. Bill O'Reilly seems to like her, though, hmm.

As for why Hannity hates her, he knows her for what she is - a greedy embarrassment of a media whore who would preach the joys of Marxism if it served her purpose.
