Dude, when I was up there it was just ridiculous the prices - there was something like a 10-acre piece with a creek and a house for $40K Canadian. But of course, there is virtually no economy there, so...

And would it really get too cold? Wouldn't the ocean help mitigate that? Or is that just a West Coast thing?

Yeah, I've seen deals like that (because apparently surfing Cape Breton real estate listings is a hobby of mine *g*).

And would it really get too cold? Wouldn't the ocean help mitigate that? Or is that just a West Coast thing?

I dunno. I've been there twice at Christmastime, and there was ice floating in the North Atlantic. And it was pretty darn cold and it snowed like all the time. Really really pretty, though.
