There should be a fandom. Why isn't there a fandom?

[identity profile] cirakaite.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the icon is Polgara. Which would make the fandom David Eddings/Riven Codex.

But I might be wrong, cause I'm hopeless at recognising cover art, even of books I love.

I agree though, if I am right, there should be a fandom. *grins*

Oh! Okay... then I for sure have no idea what it is. XD

You're right! *gives you the Grand Prize*

I dunno if this is cover art...I got it from Google Images. It might be fanart.

I'm in the middle of the second book of The Belgariad, and I'm already in love with Pol. *sigh*

[identity profile] cirakaite.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's the cover art from the standalone, Polgara the Sorceress. And I'm surprised there isn't fanfic out there, at the very least about Silk . . .

[identity profile] primroseburrows.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen fanfic. Never read it, just looked at titles. No silk, though, just people I obviously haven't read about yet.

[identity profile] effervescent.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Katie's right - it is Polgara. You can tell by the Owl and the snowy white lock of hair she has. *grins* Awesome, awesome series. You should read it, Kara! It's by David and Leigh Eddings. :D

Oh, you should, you should.

[identity profile] dremlet.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
There is no fandom for the Belgariad/Mallorian sagas, is there? I enjoy those books too.. Just started to read Belgarath again last weekend. A pity; I think Garion was my first real literature crush. :D

[identity profile] primroseburrows.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't found a fandom. Wah.

[identity profile] nothingbutfic.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
...Does it count if one is writing Eddings fic?

[identity profile] nothingbutfic.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, but it is slash, and therefore deserving of blacklistedness.

[identity profile] ari-o.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
blacklisted fic is the tastiest and has more vitamins and minerals.

[identity profile] nothingbutfic.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
4 blacklisted fics per day contain all you need to maintain a healthy, appropriately perverse diet.

(this diet has not yet been approved by the relevant governmental agencies. please consult your local archivist for advice specifically suited to your body type.)

[identity profile] ari-o.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Not to mention all that fiber! Regularity is quite important as you age.

[identity profile] nothingbutfic.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
But I thought we were supposed to be thinking of the children...

[identity profile] ari-o.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! They're a good source of fibre too.

[identity profile] nothingbutfic.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you are what you eat, so you're only as young as what you want to...swallow?

Just write the darn fic, willya?

[identity profile] ari-o.livejournal.com 2004-01-17 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Not touching that one.

[identity profile] heinous_bitca.livejournal.com 2004-01-17 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Who and who?

Keep in mind, I've only read the Belgariad. Couldn't to the Mallorean, it was too similar and my brain rebelled.

[identity profile] primroseburrows.livejournal.com 2004-01-17 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
:)

My OTP so far isn't even slash. Heh. But then, I'm only a bit more than halfway through Queen of Sorcery.

[identity profile] nothingbutfic.livejournal.com 2004-01-17 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The Belgariad for me is nice, but it doesn't exactly stand up, especially as some of the characterisation is fiddled with in the Malloreon and the prequels. It's like in Trek fandom, comparing TOS to the movies.
ext_3190: Red icon with logo "I drink Nozz-a-la- Cola" in cursive. (Delenn)

[identity profile] primroseburrows.livejournal.com 2004-01-17 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's the best writing I've read (the guy doesn't know how to say what people are wearing, for instance, without saying "he was wearing..."). But the story is good. And there are some strong female characters. Okay, one. But like I said, I haven't gotten that far yet.

I think the reason I love Pol so much, so far, is that she reminds me a little of Delenn, my original Great Fictional Love. *g*

[identity profile] nothingbutfic.livejournal.com 2004-01-17 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
...You think she reminds you of DELENN? Actually, in retrospect, the parallels probably get stronger as you go along.

But then, I'm someone who is majorly re-evaluating my B5 love after watching the DVDs.
ext_3190: Red icon with logo "I drink Nozz-a-la- Cola" in cursive. (Delenn)

[identity profile] primroseburrows.livejournal.com 2004-01-17 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I do, actually. Delenn has a similar humour and stubbornness. And they're both beautiful, strong women who don't take any crap from anyone(I can hear Polgara saying "be somewhere else!"). They're not identical, but they have a similar...energy, I guess. MO only, of course.

I haven't watched the DVDs yet (next on my list to buy!), but I can't imagine not loving Delenn as I do.

[identity profile] nothingbutfic.livejournal.com 2004-01-17 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the DVDs haven't really changed my mind about the characters, but sort of the series as a whole. Because watching each episode in turn makes one see all the bad bits and you can't just trust to memories of the glory days anymore.

At the same time I've been collecting DS9 on DVD, and that's been making me reevaluate B5 too, because honestly Season One of B5? *twitches*

[identity profile] primroseburrows.livejournal.com 2004-01-19 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
I try to ignore Season One. Except for Chrysalis and a couple others. Michael O'Hare? Blahity-blah. I'm a better actor.

[identity profile] nothingbutfic.livejournal.com 2004-01-19 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
He sucks the energy out of everyone, it's shocking.

[identity profile] constantine1453.livejournal.com 2004-01-16 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. It's perfect for a fandom, too. Hmm...want to start one? Haha.

C.

[identity profile] constantine1453.livejournal.com 2004-01-17 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
So...um...where do we go from here? Is there any place where stories can be archived? (ff.n, private site, etc?)

Do we want to talk about canon? (Thinks about finishing the OotP analysis & opening the Belgariad & Mallorian to such a looksie)

I haven't finished the series yet. I'm working on it, though...have put aside other books to do it. I dunno where anything is, but I'll look around. Without delving too deep; spoilers, an' all.

I've never been able to find one, at least not one that's as active as HP, LotR, SW, BtVS/AtS, etc. Never understood why not -- the Belgariad and Mallorean are certainly amazing fantasy epics.

Garion/Lelldorin, anyone?

Yes. I thought of that. *g*

Lelldorin/Mandorallen. The clear solution to the problems in Arendia.

[identity profile] patchfire.livejournal.com 2004-01-18 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad you like it, dear. *G*

Belgarath is what people seem to think Dumbledore is. Of course, me, you know me, Dumbledore isn't! But it'd be nice if he was, yeah?

*would like to see Belgarath/Beldin and also Belkira/Beltira*

I think Belgarath is more Gandalf than Dumbledore. With a touch of Merlin thrown in, perhaps. Perhaps.
