I think it's the cover art from the standalone, Polgara the Sorceress. And I'm surprised there isn't fanfic out there, at the very least about Silk . . .
Katie's right - it is Polgara. You can tell by the Owl and the snowy white lock of hair she has. *grins* Awesome, awesome series. You should read it, Kara! It's by David and Leigh Eddings. :D
There is no fandom for the Belgariad/Mallorian sagas, is there? I enjoy those books too.. Just started to read Belgarath again last weekend. A pity; I think Garion was my first real literature crush. :D
4 blacklisted fics per day contain all you need to maintain a healthy, appropriately perverse diet.

The Belgariad for me is nice, but it doesn't exactly stand up, especially as some of the characterisation is fiddled with in the Malloreon and the prequels. It's like in Trek fandom, comparing TOS to the movies.
I don't think it's the best writing I've read (the guy doesn't know how to say what people are wearing, for instance, without saying "he was wearing..."). But the story is good. And there are some strong female characters. Okay, one. But like I said, I haven't gotten that far yet.
I think the reason I love Pol so much, so far, is that she reminds me a little of Delenn, my original Great Fictional Love. *g*
Yeah, I do, actually. Delenn has a similar humour and stubbornness. And they're both beautiful, strong women who don't take any crap from anyone(I can hear Polgara saying "be somewhere else!"). They're not identical, but they have a similar...energy, I guess. MO only, of course.
I haven't watched the DVDs yet (next on my list to buy!), but I can't imagine not loving Delenn as I do.
Well, the DVDs haven't really changed my mind about the characters, but sort of the series as a whole. Because watching each episode in turn makes one see all the bad bits and you can't just trust to memories of the glory days anymore.
At the same time I've been collecting DS9 on DVD, and that's been making me reevaluate B5 too, because honestly Season One of B5? *twitches*
I haven't finished the series yet. I'm working on it, though...have put aside other books to do it. I dunno where anything is, but I'll look around. Without delving too deep; spoilers, an' all.
I've never been able to find one, at least not one that's as active as HP, LotR, SW, BtVS/AtS, etc. Never understood why not -- the Belgariad and Mallorean are certainly amazing fantasy epics.

Date: 2004-01-16 04:18 pm (UTC)But I might be wrong, cause I'm hopeless at recognising cover art, even of books I love.
I agree though, if I am right, there should be a fandom. *grins*

I'm in the middle of the second book of The Belgariad, and I'm already in love with Pol. *sigh*
