Am I the only one who thinks the Pumpkin Pie wank is hysterically funny? No, I'm not talking about the rational H/Hr people who are disappointed that their ship isn't canon (although we H/D people deal with that on a daily basis and for the most part DON'T CARE).
I'm talking about the nutters, here, folks.
I mean, geez. They're raising money to put an ad in the NY Times!!!! Directed at JKR, apparently. Because of course, she reads the NY Times with her English Breakfast tea every morning whilst sitting in her kitchen in England where of course the NYT is SO relevant to British life because OMG the US is the CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, and therefore everyone must know what goes on there at all times.
If anyone takes out an ad in the Providence Journal I shall die from amusement. C'mon, Rhode Island. I double-dog-dare you.
And the petition? HAHAHAHAHAAA. So funny.
Geez, guys. Get a clue, get a life. Go for a walk in the woods, take some classes, learn to dance or something.
Besides, like
And anyway, I think if JKR did read an ad in the NYT like that she'd think it was as funny as I do.
*Rolls around on the floor laughing*
ETA: From the petition:
The summary of true love. But there are anvils, too, for HHr. I'm sorry you don't see them. It's the friendship, the base of a successfull ship. neither HG nor RH have had it.
Um, she doesn't have to "see" anything. She wrote the story, for Salazar's sake. She can turn Harry AND Hermione into tiny little tree toads if she wants to
*keeps on laughing*

Oh, the suffering!!
I'm sure JKR will feel SO VERY SORRY for them and rewrite the book.

Date: 2005-07-22 02:06 pm (UTC)I also read one that was like 'we're a PIRATE ship now, because we aren't going to be in canon' and I'm wondering... does she think that EVERYONE ELSE thinks their ship is going to be canon?? The mind boggles. I dare anyone to find me a Snape/Harry shipper who thinks it will happen in canon. I would say H/D, but you know, there's probably a couple of crazies who might think that, so I thought I'd go with Snarry, because it might be a little safer in my claim. Still. OMG. WE'RE NOT CANON, OH NO.
The only thing I think about this? Join the fucking club, people, and stfu!

Date: 2005-07-22 02:42 pm (UTC)I wonder if part of the magnitude of the H/Hr reaction comes from the fact that it's a het ship. I mean, there hasn't been nearly the same backlash in the R/S community, has there? (I confess that I don't know for sure -- that's a ship I don't spend much time watching, let along sailing.) My thinking is that slashers are used to having canon upend our pairings (pun intended), because authors usually don't make gay relationships canonical. Het shippers, on the other hand, had at least a whiff of actual possibility, so when that's taken away, the disappointment is that much greater.
I need to think about this some more. If it goes somewhere, I might post it in my journal.

Date: 2005-07-22 03:06 pm (UTC)No, you're right. Laugh.
You'd think they would either have picked up on the "subtle as a 2x4 between the eyes" hints over the last three books, or developed a blithe disregard for canon, one way or another. Either works. Heaven knows other ships in other fandoms have gone along the "oops, we were wrong" path, or the "who cares what the creator says" route, or done both. This is just... weird.
Your Providence Journal comment cracked me up. THAT would show JKR!

Date: 2005-07-22 03:10 pm (UTC)Yes, fanatical HMS Pumpkin Pie shippers amuse me to no end...
We, the members of the S.S. Guns'n'Handcuffs have been navigating the treacherous, snark-filled waters with nothing more than a ghost ship for years, and will continue to do so until the bitter end. Harry/Draco will NEVER be canon - unless a true miracle happens. However, we will tenaciously cling to the innuendo, we will titter and squee at the spotty subtext, we will proudly fly the H/D ship colors until Doomsday!

Some of them are being logical, and understanding that just because it's not canon doesn't mean they can't ship it. But the people wanting to set fire to JKR's house and shit: O_o ?!!?! They've lost their fucking minds. XD

Those with real passion (unlike the owner of http://hermionepotter.net or whatever the hell it is) will continue to read and ship, regardless of canon. Those who throw a hissy fit were never fans to begin with.
Oy.
