The long-awaited Random Bullet List!Update:

• I just watched the first episode of The Sopranos. No, really, I've never seen the show before, having no HBO and all. If anyone tells me how the series ends I will kick them in the head. Well, okay, I won't do that, but I won't be a very happy camper. Anyway, I really like it. I knew I would; I'm a sucker for mob stories.
  
  
• Ontarians past and present, and People Who Know Ontario: I need your help! I'll be in a. London/Stratford, b. Toronto, and c. Ottawa the last week of July/first week of Aug, with peacey and maybe her sister.
  
  Suggestions for stuff to do? The only definite plan is King Lear at Stratford Theatre on the 25th, and I won't leave without touring Parliament Hill unless the sky falls or I get thrown out of the country for excessive dorkery (just look at these lovely pictures! Politics has never been so pretty. Well, okay, maybe once). Apparently I'll be doing a lot of driving, but oh, well, it can't be helped. Oh, and if you could recommend some local non-tourist-y bookstores?

  • It Was a Very Good Year (Frannie/Turnbull, maybe mild R) Backstory for both Frannie and Turnbull, very believable. I have a big love for Frannie stories in general; this one's in firmly in the top favourites group.
    
    Often he surprised her by being useful. Sometimes he called with information that was helpful in a case. Once he helped locate Benton and her fake brother when they'd disappeared off the face of Lake Superior. Once or twice he acted as a buffer between the cops and that horrible witch of an Inspector who had designs on Her Benton. Yes, Turnbull had his uses. Like a footstool.
    
    And so of course she never noticed the footstool staring at her with wistful, hopeless, sad-sack adoration.
  
  
  
• I have to see a dentist like woah. I have a missing filling that's starting to hurt due to weeks of not taking care of it, and I need a cleaning bigtime. I want to find a new dentist in the area. I'd best start searching before I have to get out the ol' string and tie it to the doorknob.
  
  
• I watched a few minutes of CNN tonight while I was at the Chinese Buffet (eight bucks, all you can eat. Greasy, fatty, and yummy). It's getting pretty awful. I mean, yeah, it was Lou Dobbs, and I'm not exactly his biggest fan, but at least he was giving something that sounded like news (although it was really him reading letters from People Who Agree With Him, which isn't news at all).
  
  Then The Situation Room came on and they started talking about former Israeli soldiers posing for Maxim and how some people in the government of Israel are calling it pornography. Um. Interesting story, but I'm sure there's a whole lot more going on in Israel (and the rest of the world) that's more important. If I want modelling controversy, which I never will, I'll watch Inside Access. Which is right up there with American Idol on the Shows I Will Never Watch list.
  
  
• Circumcision no "Silver Bullet". This basically says what I've been trying to say but haven't been able to find the words. And it's a mainstream news site, too.
  
  
• mr_t00by left a bag of clothes on the bus home from New Hampshire. He says it was about half of all his clothes. We tried to go to Kennedy Plaza where the bus was due in next, but it never came and all that happened is I got to use up all sorts of gas driving around while he waited because there is nowhere to park in Providence in the eveniing. The bus company was closed when he tried to call them, so we'll try again in the morning. Needless to say he is not too happy at the moment, poor kid. Cross your fingers that we can get them back. They're in a plastic bag with no ID, which isn't a good idea and he should have labelled them, but it's still a bummer that they're missing. :/

And besides, sometimes you just have to use them. I mean, come on, it's impossible to write Fraser dialogue without them. He even thinks with semicolons (and lots of parenthetical phrases).

OK, so I tend to not do the touristy thing, both because I'm usually working when those things are open, and because touristy stuff embarrasses me.

In OTTAWA
-Bank Street south of 417 - neat little alt area, has independent book/clothing stores and a neat stationary place. I was only in Ottawa during the FREEZING COLD END TIMES, so this was the only walking area I saw.
-Bridgehead coffee (or Bridgeport, Bridge something) is an independent chain, all organic, good stuff, and has free wireless.
-go over to Gatineau and get a hot dog and poutine.
-the War Museum is attached to the Museum of Civilization, and I think? you can get a discounted price for the two?
-Museum of Natural History - follow the dinosaur signs.

In TORONTO:
-AVOID THE 401 LIKE THE PLAGUE. Seriously - get yourself a AAA map and avoid. You will lose HOURS stuck on here.
-Danforth Ave. E of the D(on)V(alley)P(arkway) is Greektown, and has great food. Not cheap, but great.
-Spring Rolls is a local chain with good Thai for cheap. There's one on Front street just east of Yonge.
-Kensington Market, obviously, for wandering. Queen W, obviously, for wandering. Bloor West is actually my favourite of the three - the Annex around U of T is just good generally.
-you can take a ferry out to the Toronto Islands, though I've never been.
-drive by PG's studio on Ontario street and bond with your inner fangirl/stalker. Or maybe I'm the only one really amused by that.

Oh, ah, Green Door (I think) is a coffee shop off Bloor - very classic college hangout, good for hanging out. C'Est What is a microbrew bar in the basement on Front just E of Yonge (like a block and a half from my old place) and a good place to sample local micros. Sneaky Dees on Bathurst and either Dundas or College is a decent Mexican place, though the Mexican overall is pretty shitty. I know a good jerk place, but it's a crappy strip-mall infested place near my office off Vic Park.

Oh, and Dundas is pretty cool W of say, Keele. Out by the Queens/Kingsway. Another good place to ditch the car and wander along. And when you're on Queen W, somewhere in the 500-700s there's a sex shop with live models posing in the windows, which is fun.

Also, late July? I cannot say anything for certain, bu theoretically my time in Milwaukee should be up by mid-July and theoretically I'm going back.

We found them! They took the bag off of the bus and left it inside the depot, and he got it back this morning. :)

I looked for you a couple of days ago and another day around then, and woe, you were nowhere. I have Monday off, and will try to be around, but it's iffy because I work a double shift on Sunday.

Hmm... a couple of days ago, I was probably Painting. We've been working on the upstairs room (the one you slept in last time) and trying to get it all nicely painted. Then last night I was putting together five different bookcases, in addition to a desk, a DVD tower, a drawer storage unit for said desk, and a big pine box. I have hex key burn on my thumb.

But I still <3 IKEA.

Tonight and tomorrow night I am at the 'rents house anyway - we are going to Lake Winnie tomorrow, today we did the TN Aquarium, and yesterday we did the Atlanta Zoo. Sunday we are going to do the Incline and then go to the Chattanooga Market before going back home. Sam has to work all weekend. I'll be around Monday next week and then probably later but not next weekend because G and I are going camping! *does a little dance*

This whole not-being-depressed thing is great, but we're going to have to start *gasp* talking on the phone or something.
